An authentic bronze sculpture from Burkino Faso. A country known for artisans that specialize in the art of Lost Wax Bronze making. This way of crafting Bronze sculpture is an intense and gruelling process. The technique was first used in the 3rd millennium BC and is continued today by this select group of craftsmen in Burkino Faso.

These talented metalworkers casted this sculpture that depicts an African griot in green attire walking a playing the talking drum. The talking drum goes by many names depending upon the African culture. Some of the names include: Dondo, Odondo, Tamanin, Lunna, Donno, Kalangu, Dan Karbi, Igba, Doodo, Tama, Tamma, Dundun, Gangan.

The Talking Drum is "an hourglass-shaped drum from West Africa, whose pitch can be regulated to mimic the tone and prosody of human speech. It has two drumheads connected by leather tension cords, which allow the player to change the pitch of the drum by squeezing the cords between their arm and body".

This sculpture is a part of our African Griot collection. A griot is a West African historian, storyteller, praise singer, poet or musician. The griot is a repository of oral tradition and is often seen as a leader due to his or her position as an advisor to royal personages.

Measures 10 inches (height) x 7 inches (length) x 3 inches (width).

This sculpture is handmade so there may be slight and subtle variations in pattern, shape and size. This is what makes the sculpture unique and a true work of art.

Take a piece of Burkino Faso home with you and experience the beauty of their metal casting handiwork.
